Ambisonic Soundscape Research in the Donau-Auen National Park – Au, 2019
This research was conducted as part of a Master’s thesis at the University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten in summer 2019. It was a scientific soundscape study in the Donau-Auen National Park in Austria. This work represents an investigation of the soundscapes in this national park using Ambisonic recording and playback techniques. The spatial sound quality and the quality of the soundscapes are investigated using first-order Ambisonic listening tests. The results show that spatial recording and playback procedures complement the assessment of a soundscape with essential additional spatial information. In addition, the soundscape quality of the respective location could be demonstrated. It was found that the presence of anthrophonics is proportional to the listener’s sense of well-being and that they are ubiquitous in the acoustic environment. A short article on this work was published in the Donau-Auen Blog.
